Case of the Mundys: Refocus Edition

How many people have asked you today how pissed off you are about the BCS championship game? No less than 15 for me. Well, I'm not pissed...I'm just disappointed. To be honest, I don't have any emotion left...November 18th took it all out of me.

It's time to refocus whatever anger and pain you may feel towards "the Florida coach," the former Florida coach, or the monkeys with darts over at the Harris poll...and direct it towards Pete Carroll. We are in the Rose Bowl folks, and if all you can think about is that this is a consolation game, then shame on you. It's Michigan vs. USC, a rematch of the 2003 Rose Bowl, and most likely a battle for #1...not for this year, but in next year's preseason polls. Seems like pre-season placement factors in to this BCS crap...so maybe that's important. Ya, probably not.

Rounding up the weekend (and the last couple of weekends) around the internets:

Injury Report:

  • Just Antonio Bass, out for season of course.

Case of the Mundys: The New House Edition 11/13/06

Less than 5 days remain before a small group of UMTailgaters will venture to Hell on Earth. I am caught halfway between "giddy with anticipation" and "scared shitless of what the fans are capable of." Either way, I am worthless at work and sleepless at home. It's not because I'm caught up in the X's and O's of Saturday's contest, for I am not an X's and O's type of guy. This game is and always will be about emotion. Win or lose, you'll probably be able to find me after the game in tears.

"Throw out the record books" is a phrase often used to describe rivalry games, but that doesn't do justice to Michigan-Ohio State. There will be two completely teams on the field from the ones you've been watching all season. Hits will be harder, everything and everyone will be faster, and sound from referee whistles will take longer to register in the ears of the players.

Unless you're John Dogan, this is the biggest regular season college football game to occur in your lifetime.

What you might have missed while finishing that case of Natty Light:

  • Still silencing his critics? I guess. But enjoy Lloyd while you can...I believe two more wins will send Lloyd riding off into the sunset. [Yahoo Sports]

  • The greatest scorer in Michigan history? Desmond Howard? No. Tyrone Wheatley? No. Garret Rivas? You betcha. [Michigan Daily]

  • MGoBlue isn't screwing around with there game page. The bad news...play-by-play by a former Ohio State QB and a former Fighting Irish coach. The good news...no Brent Musberger. [MGoBlue]

  • Monday's presser notes, which included special guest Bo Schembechler. [MGoBlue]

  • To get the enemy's perspective, try Ohio State's infamous Michigan Monday. [OZone]

  • We got one first place vote...thank you John Giglio. [MZone]

  • A Texas-style breakdown of the big game. [Burnt Orange Nation]

  • When you have absolutely no life... [Deadspin]

  • As much as I love the idea, these inside the stadium pics turn my stomach a bit. [UMich]

  • In case you didn't already know... [Dayton Daily News]

  • This may save my life. [Cleveland Plain Dealer]

Injury Report

  • Antonio Bass: out for season

  • Mike Kolodziej: out for season

  • Prescott Burgess: ankle, magically healed for OSU

  • All others healed magically by the waters of the Cooley Fountain.

Case of the Mundy's: Goody is Dead to Me Edition 11/4/07

Sometimes people forget just who is the Webmaster of UMTailgate.com. It's a shame to have to sometimes slap a man so that he remembers his place in the hierarchy of the tailgate...and tailgate website. I neither have the time nor the inclination to tear down the fragile soul of Goody, who is only a worthy adversary if we were to face off in a "who can buy the most engagement rings" contest. However, I am impressed at his new found ability to use a spellchecker before posting...or perhaps his son is reading "Dick and Jane" to him at night to help him through his illiteracy.

Moving on for today...

The weekend that was around the internet that Goody has to go to the Romulus library to log on to:

  • I really like the "reality check" line. I thought Northwestern was a reality check. You know what would really focus this team? A loss. A loss would really fire them up for Ohio State. Maybe we should throw the game to Indiana...sound crazy? Crazy as beating BALL FREAKING STATE BY ONLY 8 POINTS?!?!?!? [Detroit News]

  • Well, if the weather was bad, I would be in 100% agreement with this, but for now the worst game ever is still 34-9 pasting by Iowa on homecoming back in 2002. [Maize and Brew]

  • For a different look at the careers of the graduating seniors, try some haiku from mgoblog.

  • Still the best name in the Michigan Blogoshere....[Ronald Bellamy's Underachieving All-Stars]

  • The password is... SCARE. [Sporting News | Foxsports | Freep]

  • Bo weighs in on the Dead Schembechlers, and almost being one. [Columbus Dispatch]

Injury Report

  • Anotnio Bass: should start against Eastern Michigan

  • Mike Kolodziej: should start looking for something to do

  • Tyler Ecker: dressed for Ball State...will play against Indiana

  • Mike Massey: dressed for Ball State...will play against Indiana

  • Kevin Grady: shoulder, should be back for Indiana...more likely OSU.

Case of the Mundy's: Devil's Night Edition 10/30/06

It's Halloween Eve, known around these parts as Devil's Night. I say "these parts" because in my neverending journey to learn something new everyday, I found out that Devil's Night is native to the state of Michigan, and more specifically Detroit. Nice! All this time I thought that people nationwide were destructing property and setting fires. But it's just us. So get out the toilet paper, eggs, and door knocking devices and head out to the streets to cause some mayhem. If you are in or around the city of Detroit, you might need to step it up a notch, so get some gasoline and burn down a crack house or two. You can always go the other route and be a big wuss and try to stop Devil's Night by participating in Angel's Night. Either way, remember that the important thing is that you have fun, dress up, and steal candy from children.

The weekend that was...

  • Michigan vs. Ball State is hijacked by the Worldwide Leader and put on ESPNU so nobody can see it. Shouldn't we have ESPNU in Ann Arbor anyway? Half their crap is probably live from Cliff-Keen. [Freep]

  • MGoBlog wrestles with crappy ponchos and the question of crappy offense vs. hiding the offense. [MGoBlog]

  • Angel gives Michigan's Offense a B- for Saturday. Reminds me of the time a prof gave me a B- when I told him that he must have lost my final exam (that I didn't take). [Detroit News]

  • Mark Snyder says Ball State will heal our offensive wounds. [Freep]

  • Apparently the sun rises and sets with Mario. [Sporting News]

The injury report...

  • Antonio Bass...just a week closer to a medical redshirt

  • Mr. Kolodziej....just a week closer to jack squat.

  • Reuben Riley: Not all that injured...and not all that good. Will probably start against Ball State.

  • Tyler Ecker: right ankle injury...could return (seriously) for Ball State.

  • Mario Manningham: knee...ran this week. Before you get too excited though, I can run too. I think we'll see him in Bloomington on a limited basis, then in full force in Columbus...of course, full force is a relative term.

Case of the Mundy's: Gimmie Them Keys Edition 10/24/06

The story hit locally, and is now getting some national pub, all because some girl couldn't keep her mouth shut about a scuffle over some car keys. It seems the rumors from last week were true, and Adrian Arrington was arraigned on the Wednesday before the Iowa game for a domestic spat with his girlfriend. Lloyd chose to believe AA's story and allow him to play. Now that there is a question of whether alcohol was involved, the 20-year old receiver might have found himself in slightly deeper shit. Link to the freep article here. There's a November 1st court date, and I am hoping for this to all get straightened out with some community service and perhaps a first-half suspension for Ball State. Because while I'm all about class and keeping players in line, that November 1st court date is much less important than November 18th's date with destiny.

A couple more quick hits from the internet:In What's Wrong With the Message Board News...

The message board is down, but it's not just a UMTailgate.com problem. Thousands of users of the message board software plugin that is on this site are reporting the same problem. It's some kind of global issue. Hopefully, the creators will have a patch soon. Until then, just use comment posting to get your message out.
