From the Big Ten tournament press release…

For only the sixth time in conference history, three teams shared the Big Ten Championship. Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue earned a share of the 2010 Big Ten crown after completing the regular season with identical 14-4 marks in conference action. The last time three teams shared the conference title was in 2002 when Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin ended the year at 11-5. Ohio State also finished 11-5 in 2002, but later vacated their share of the title.

So, there was a three-way-tie for the title, and that means the tournament is gonna be Awesome (yes, with a capital ‘A’).

Michigan tips off at 2:30pm against Iowa, and it’s the first game of the day, so you can count on the tip off to be on time. So, if you get ESPN2 in your cubicle, you should be all set. Actually, the audio and the video will probably show up on the internet somewhere…and someone will tweet about it. I’ll retweet when I get the details.

Winner plays The Assholes at noon on Friday.

Got an email yesterday from a Sparty fan that had this screenshot…

In case you can’t see it, that says that the Spartans have not lost to Michigan in Football or Basketball in 855 days.

And that just pissed me off. So I just wanted to remind everyone that Michigan State last went to a Rose Bowl 8,102 days ago…or 22 years, 2 months, and 7 days ago.

In addition, because of this, this, and this, Michigan State has also had a representative in prison each of those 855 days. And, seeing this, I think the streak will continue.

Michigan lost to Michigan State giving the Spartans a piece of the three way tie for the Big Ten title. I give you two choices: 1) Sucks to be us! (from AnnArbor.com). 2) Must be nice! (from The Only Colors). Glutton for punishment? Michigan and Iowa tip off in the Big Ten tournament on Thursday at 2:30pm. Winner plays OSU on Friday.

That Will Be All, Thanks

In between chants of “little sister” and “shut up Beilein,” I wondered if things could get any worse. It was 42-14 at that point…shades of Tommy Ammaker vs. Duke. Then the announcers mentioned that Michigan hadn’t beaten Michigan State in football or basketball since 2007. That’s pretty much three years ago. I’m almost done with this shit. Michigan falls to Michigan State 64-48.

Purdue and the Pricks were tied for the Big Ten title, and we helped the Assholes join them. Great. Michigan State and Ohio St are winning Big Ten titles…TOGETHER, and I’m wondering if we’re gonna host any games in the CBIT. By the way, that’s a Big Ten title sweep for Ohio State. Remember when Michigan won Big Ten titles in Football and Basketball in the same year? No you don’t.

So if you’re keeping score at home…

…haven’t defeated Michigan State in hoops or football since 2007

…can’t beat OSU in football, last win in 2003

…won’t make NIT after making NCAA tournament last year and only graduating walk-ons

…three Big Ten wins in 2 years in football

You can’t polish a turd. Happy Monday.

Win the Tournament to Make THE Tournament

Michigan Hockey and Michigan Basketball have similar goals in the next week. They both need to win their conference tournaments in order to make the NCAA tournament. While Michigan Basketball is trying to make it two consecutive trips to the 64-team “dance”…Michigan Hockey is attempting to continue a 19 year tradition of making the much smaller field of 16 (which was only 8 prior to 2003). The hockey team began the CCHA tournament this weekend with a matchup against LSSU (CCHA tournament bracket here). They dispatched of the Lakers in dominating fashion, outscoring LSSU 5-2 on Friday, and 6-0 tonight. Hopefully carrying momentum, Michigan advances to meet Michigan State next weekend in a best of three game series at Munn in East Lansing.

It took four months for this team to hit its stride, and now, the sky is the limit for the Michigan Wolverines.

I kid. I kid.

But it’s nice. It’s a nice way to send out Sims, Gibson, and Wright…and each got a chance to contribute. Some analysts will say that we “match up well” with the Gophers, some will say we were inspired by senior night, but the truth is…our 3’s fell (8-19), and there’s didn’t (3-16). And in addition to the 15 point swing that the 5 extra 3’s provided, it also put Michigan in rhythm. When those shots start to go in with some kind of regularity, they tend to get back on D a little quicker, tend to rebound a little more.

We truly do live and die by it.

“A couple of shots dropped, and it was contagious,” Michigan coach John Beilein said.

Sure. I hope it carries over into Sunday…because all we have left is beating Michigan Agricultural College. By the way, you don’t need a .500 record to make the NIT anymore, so were like in it, right?

Another question yet to be answered…was that Manny’s last game in Crisler?
