Way Back When-sday Got Drunk in Boston

September 16, 1995: An appropriately out of focus group picture commemorates a weekend of drunken debauchery by the pre-website UMTailgate crew as Michigan defeated Boston College 23-13 in Chestnut Hill. Workhorse Tim Biakabutuka had 32 carries for 129 yards and a TD, but the defense was the star holding BC to 188 total yards, and sacking BC QB Matt Hartsell 5 times…which did enough damage that an unknown QB named Matt Hasselbeck had to come in the 4th quarter. More pics from the weekend on the game page here.

Way Back When-sday was the Best Tailgate Ever!

October 15, 2005: Michigan went 54 yards in 37 seconds, culminating with a now famous “TOUCHDOWN MANNINGHAM” as time expired, and Michigan beat Penn State 27-25, their 7th in a row over the Nittany Lions and part of a 10 year run (1997-2007) with 9 straight wins. Led by Captain Michigan, we declared it “The Best Tailgate Ever” and thus began a several year run of blasting the Joe Esposito classic Karate Kid hit as often as possible. More from that day here on the game page.

Way Back When-sday Beat the Cowboys

September 19, 1992: Three future tailgate hall of famers had a beer or two before the Oklahoma State Cowboys visited the Big House and got dismantled 35-3. Todd Collins went 29 of 42(!) for 285 and 2 TDs (both to Derek Alexander), and Ricky Powers led all rushers with 69 yards and 2 TDs. Game recap and pictures from 1992 Oklahoma State are here.

Way Back When-sday Had Quite a Comeback

October 30, 2004: Having a little trouble coming to grips with the fact that “the Braylon game” was almost 20 years ago, but here we are. The first families of UMTailgate pose before Michigan comes back from a 17-point 4th quarter deficit to defeat Michigan State 45-37 in triple overtime. Chad Henne went 24 of 35 for 273 yards and 4 TDs, of which 189 yards and 3 TDs were Braylon’s. More memories on the game page here.
