Wayback When-sday was at My House

OSU Tailgate 1997

November 22, 1997: The group gathers behind my college house on State St before Michigan’s 20-14 victory over the Buckeyes en route to an undefeated season and National Championship. This was the last time my bed was less than 20 yards from the tailgate, and I remember wondering what these idiots were doing showing up at the crack of dawn to start drinking and eating. Fast forward 28 years, and I am the #1 enabler of several levels of idiocy beyond these fine folks. The season is almost upon us my friends. Let’s go blue.

More pics and stuff from that fine day in 1997 live here.

Way Back When-sday Christened the Cove

September 4, 2010: The UMTailgate.com crew had their first tailgate (a Luau Theme) in their new space in “The Cove” at Pioneer High. A star-studded event that included a Kraft sponsorship and a special appearance by Jarrett Irons. Crazy times. Michigan would go on to beat UCONN 30-10 behind nearly 400 all-purpose years from Denard Robinson. The rest of the pics and details of the day are here.

Way Back When-sday is Ramping Up

We are VERY close to Tailgate Theme announcements for the season, so stay tuned. Just 24 days until kickoff under the lights. Can’t believe it’s here. The reigning National Champions will take the field. Looking forward to seeing you all!

September 3, 2016: A season opener against the Mountain West with a Luau Theme…sounds familiar. Pork belly hash, pork sliders and fries preceded an absolute dismantling of the Rainbow Warriors, 63-3. See the rest of the pictures from that day here. Michigan would lose 3 games in 2016 (JT was short) by a total of 5 points.

Way Back When-sday is Going Streaking!

November 22, 1997: Been holding on to this one for a while. This is Captain Michigan, Today is his birthday. 26 years ago today he agreed to run naked down the main drag in Manchester if Michigan beat Ohio State. He is nothing if not a man of his word. This picture was taken just after Michigan defeated Ohio State for the third straight year, locking in an undefeated regular season and a trip to the Rose Bowl en route to a National Championship. More from that day and beyond on the game page.

Way Back When-sday Got Drunk in Boston

September 16, 1995: An appropriately out of focus group picture commemorates a weekend of drunken debauchery by the pre-website UMTailgate crew as Michigan defeated Boston College 23-13 in Chestnut Hill. Workhorse Tim Biakabutuka had 32 carries for 129 yards and a TD, but the defense was the star holding BC to 188 total yards, and sacking BC QB Matt Hartsell 5 times…which did enough damage that an unknown QB named Matt Hasselbeck had to come in the 4th quarter. More pics from the weekend on the game page here.
