Way Back When-sday Celebrated Neumanium with the Goat

A very special retirement edition of Way Back When-sday…

January 1, 2000: Mr. Tom Brady threw for 4TDs, led Michigan back from 14-point deficits twice and forced overtime where Alabama missed an extra point, making Michigan the 2000 Orange Bowl champions. After this his last game in the Maize and Blue, Tom would go on to be the undisputed GOAT, eclipsing every QB record in the books and collecting more Super Bowl rings than any franchise. Looking forward to seeing you in the booth or on a future Michigan sideline with a headset on!

Way Back When-sday Meets at the Midsection

Michigan takes on Purdue in hoops tomorrow at Crisler so we throw it back to November 13, 2010 when we touched bellies for luck before Michigan’s 27-16 victory over the Boilermakers. Some interesting stats in this one: Will Hagerup, Tate Fortier, and Denard Robinson all PUNTED in this game as pooching (since outlawed by, um, math and statistics) was a standard practice back in the 2010’s. I do recall we ate two caterers trays of Chick-fil-a minis at the tailgate, and by we I mean “I”. Full game page is here and has a bunch of good photos from Frydaddy who brought his big boy camera that day.

Way Back When-sday Rolled Lemons

September 9, 1995 - Father (Captain Michigan) and son (Goody) perform “the rolling of the lemons” for yucca, a long standing tailgate tradition. Later that afternoon, Michigan would defeat Memphis 24-7 on the legs of a young Tim Biakabutuka who rushed for 143 yards on 25 carries, and a stingy defense that only allowed 96 yards of Tiger offense. More pictures from the day are on the game page here.
