Spring Reunion: Do You Know Your Themes?

We would have liked to think that we knew, but we didn't.  Crazier things have happened on selection Sunday.  So we sat around on a Saturday afternoon, 20+ tailgaters together for the first time since November 22nd, rooting for the favorites to win each of the conference tournaments as to not burst any more bubbles...while drinking ourselves blind at Fraser's Pub in Ann Arbor.  In between baskets and debates on who to root for between OSU and MSU, we hammered out the themes for 8 home tailgates, and made arrangements for 4 road trips.

The themes for the 2009 UMTailgate.com Home Football Tailgates are as follows:

  • September 5, 2009: Western Michgian - Boats, Ho's, and the Catalina Wine Mixer combines a nautical theme, water sports, scantily clad women, wine, and tapas.

  • September 12, 2009: Notre Dame - Luau will feature our traditional Hawaiian garb, deco, and plates full of several parts of the pig.  This could mark the first tailgate appearance of the BBQ Bacon-Sausage roll.

  • September 19, 2009: Eastern Michigan - The Far East-ern tailgate will celebrate Asian fare.

  • September 26, 2009: Indiana - This homecoming game will mark the return of the Mardi Gras theme.

  • October 17, 2009: Delaware State - Ahhhhh yes...or awwwwwwww yeah...it's The Urban featuring soul food and lots of rap music.

  • October 24, 2009: Penn State - The first ever Old School tailgate will feature a class reunion type atmosphere with old pictures, yearbooks, and varsity jackets.  Not sure what direction we'll go for food here.

  • November 7, 2009: Purdue - Another first time theme...The Lumberjack...will feature overalls galore, and rustic country cooking.  There's a fairly good chance of fried turkeys at this one.

  • November 21, 2009: Ohio State - Soups, Stews, and Chili will keep us warm before we bust the nuts.

More detail to come as we get closer.

UMTailgate.com Winter Reunion Now Set

The planning committee has spoken, and the 2009 UMTailgate.com Winter Reunion will occur on Saturday, March 14th.  It will (hopefully) be a busy day in Michigan sports, as Spring practice will have just begun, the CCHA tournament will be in full swing, and the Big Ten basketball tournament will have two semifinal games, one of which would please me greatly if it featured the Wolverines.

So, mark it down in your calendar....March 14th, Fraser's Pub, 2pm.  We've got work to do...away game plans, themes, etc.  That should take about 15 minutes, and then we'll drink until we go blind and Michigan solidifies its resume for the tournament.  See you there.

Reunited

An otherwise subdued afternoon at Fraser's Pub turned raucous as the UMTailgate.com crew arrived in droves to eat, drink, and reminisce. The winter meetings were held, and after inebriated deliberation, the 2007 themes were decided. A brief recap follows...

  • Captain Michigan told Frank (The Webmaster) to "kiss his ass"

  • Shep will organize the first annual UMTailgate.com golf outing. It will be held in Coldwater, Michigan. Details to follow.

  • Dennis "The Godfather" Moore failed to bring his mug to a UMTailgate.com event for the first time in history.

  • Captain Michigan requested that Lisa choke on her nacho so that he may administer mouth-to-mouth.

  • Captain Michigan will turn 60 at this year's Ohio State game.

  • Gar from Garsworld has issued an RV challenge for the @ Illinois tailgate and game.

Themes will be as follows:

  • 9/1 Appalachian State: The Luau

  • 9/8 Oregon : Flip the Bird - A tailgate filled with middle fingers and culinary delights from the world of poultry. Fried turkeys may be a possibility.

  • 9/15 Notre Dame : Irish Fayre - Corned beef, cabbage, Sheppard's Pie, and the like

  • 9/22 Penn State : The UMTailgate.com Carnival - Elephant ears, corn dogs, popcorn, dogs, nachos, cheesesteaks, and maybe a couple of midgets

  • 9/29 At Northwestern : TBD

  • 10/6 Eastern Michigan : The Urban Tailgate - A classic theme filled with soul food and 40's

  • 10/13 Purdue : The Mardi Gras theme reappears for the Webmaster's 100th game.

  • 10/20 At Illinois : The dueling Winnebagos

  • 10/27 Minnesota : Soups and Stews precludes the possible year end banquet date

  • 11/3 At Michigan State : TBD

  • 11/10 At Wisconsin : TBD

  • 11/17 Ohio State : "South of the Border" theme with bloody marys. In honor of Captain Michigan's birthday, it has been requested that we all dress like Rubly.

Detailed minutes will be available soon.

Thanks to all that came out. It was no doubt our largest reunion ever!

Get Together

We're just a little over 5 months fromASU...no, not that ASU...and just under three months removed from bowing once again to USC. So, it's time to bring the whole tailgating team together for the annual reunion, where we catch up on any big news (like news the Godfather didn't call me about), make theme plans for the upcoming season, and drink ourselves blind while watching the Final Four. Sound good to you? Then we'll see you Saturday at 2:00pm as we take over Fraser's Pub for the day...and perhaps night. And if you like the place, apparentlyit's for sale.

See you there.
