Weekend Roundup, I'm Not Dead Yet Edition 10/24/2011

It's after midnight, so it's technically 10/25/2011, and that means you can get yourself a copy of John U. Bacon's opus Three and Out.  Personally, I can't wait to get confirmation that Carr and his clan gave no support to RichRod and company...so I'm heading to Kindle-ville right after this post.  So, the internets....

  • Speaking of Coach Carr, his alma mater...and mine...is heading to the playoffs for the first time in seven years.  They got the Colvin Cup back from Grosse Ile a couple weeks back (listen close to the video and you'll hear me), dismantled Algonac last week, and they host Chelsea this Friday.  So ya, it's me vs. Superfan, Sgt. Wolverine, and the rest of the superhero-clad Michigan fans that are all from Chelsea.  Come say "hi" fellas, I'm the chubby fella in the booth.
  • Michigan basketball comes in at #18 in the preseason rankings.  I soooo desperately want to believe in this team.  Somebody give me something to hang my hat on.  Please?  Well, that ranking puts basketball and football in similar slots in the polls.  AnnArbor.com poses a great question....which team will end up higher when it's all said and done?
  • As I stated last week...Michigan needs to find a way to buck the trend of the last couple years that has Michigan State figuring out the Achilles heel and the rest of the Big Ten copycatting/adjusting so that we don't win another game.  Poop.  AnnArbor.com elaborates on the subject.
  • And the winner of the Best Column Title of the Season award goes to Stephen Nesbitt and the Michigan Daily:  Appreciate the Attitude, Wait on the Aptitude.  Yes, that's what we shall all strive to do.

I Did Not Enjoy That

I felt that coming the whole time.  And I'm not the only one.  The doom was palpable in Crisler, with every missed free throw, with every missed lay in, with every missed opportunity, there was a growing sense that the other shoe was going to drop...perhaps not off the glass and in...but drop nonetheless.

Even more unfortunate is that I am completely numb to shit like that these days.  Yep, I'm a little dissappionted, but certainly not shocked.  I've seen 3-9.  You can't phase me.

And this season is far from over.  We needed that one, but we didn't NEED that one.  And tournament or not, what has been accomplished here with the hand that has been dealt is special.  I'm a Beilein fan, and that's something I've never said before.  The future is bright, and as for the present, there is only one thing I want....a sweep of the Angry Midget's Minions.

Thanks to my old friend Mischa for the tickets, and to Cooper for the halftime upgrade.  I took horrible pictures...but I will share them anyway.  Denard sighting!

Live! Basketball! In the Middle of the Day!

From the Big Ten tournament press release...

For only the sixth time in conference history, three teams shared the Big Ten Championship. Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue earned a share of the 2010 Big Ten crown after completing the regular season with identical 14-4 marks in conference action. The last time three teams shared the conference title was in 2002 when Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin ended the year at 11-5.  Ohio State also finished 11-5 in 2002, but later vacated their share of the title.

So, there was a three-way-tie for the title, and that means the tournament is gonna be Awesome (yes, with a capital 'A').

Michigan tips off at 2:30pm against Iowa, and it's the first game of the day, so you can count on the tip off to be on time.  So, if you get ESPN2 in your cubicle, you should be all set.  Actually, the audio and the video will probably show up on the internet somewhere...and someone will tweet about it.  I'll retweet when I get the details.

Winner plays The Assholes at noon on Friday.

That Will Be All, Thanks

In between chants of "little sister" and "shut up Beilein," I wondered if things could get any worse.  It was 42-14 at that point...shades of Tommy Ammaker vs. Duke.  Then the announcers mentioned that Michigan hadn't beaten Michigan State in football or basketball since 2007.  That's pretty much three years ago.  I'm almost done with this shit.  Michigan falls to Michigan State 64-48.

Purdue and the Pricks were tied for the Big Ten title, and we helped the Assholes join them.  Great.  Michigan State and Ohio St are winning Big Ten titles...TOGETHER, and I'm wondering if we're gonna host any games in the CBIT.  By the way, that's a Big Ten title sweep for Ohio State.  Remember when Michigan won Big Ten titles in Football and Basketball in the same year?  No you don't.

So if you're keeping score at home...

...haven't defeated Michigan State in hoops or football since 2007

...can't beat OSU in football, last win in 2003

...won't make NIT after making NCAA tournament last year and only graduating walk-ons

...three Big Ten wins in 2 years in football

You can't polish a turd.  Happy Monday.
