What's Up This Weekend? Groundhog Day Edition

Tonight:

  • Michigan Hockey (8-16-2 overall) vs. Michigan State (7-16-3):  When Michigan and Michigan State meet up, you can throw out the records...and both of these teams wish they could.  This is a battle for last place in the CCHA, and there's a rematch tomorrow at the JLA.  I'm guessing they're giving tickets away on all accounts.  Puck drops at 6:35pm at Yost, and this shitfest will be televised.  TV: BTN  |   Internet Radio: Here.  Head to Yost Built for some solid Michigan Hockey coverage

Groundhog Day:

  • Michigan Hockey vs. Michigan State (see above).  Puck drops at 4:05pm.  TV: FSD  |  Internet Radio: Here
  • Michigan Basketball (20-1) at Indiana (19-2).  IT'S THE BIGGEST MICHIGAN BASKETBALL GAME OF ALL TIME until you check the schedule and see that we play both Ohio State, at Wisconsin, and at MSU in the next 11 days.  Regardless, the ESPN hype machine is running with this one, so it will be a good test on a very national stage.  #1 vs. #3 nationally, tied at the top of the conference standings, gameday is there, etc, etc.  Tipoff at 9:00pm.  TV: ESPN  |  Internet Radio: Here.  UMHoops will make you smarter in the interim.

Super Bowl Sunday:

  • San Francisco vs. Baltimore:  Good number of former friends of the (Michigan) program will be on or near the field.  Touch the Banner has a nice concise roundup.  Moeller alert!  ESPN's Big Ten Blog covers all the Big Ten ties.  It's on TV, coverage starts at like 8am, game is supposed to start at 6:30pm, but I've set the over-under at 7pm.  The official Super Bowl blog is here.

Did You Know We Beat Iowa by 25 Points in Football?

I get depressed when we lose.  So why I didn't get fired up about Devin Gardner and the boys when we beat the crap out of Iowa 42-17 last November is beyond me.  No post.  No pics.  Sad.  Sorry.  We had a hell of a tailgate that day.  Smoked, fried, and smoked-and-fried turkeys....filet mignon, tailgater awards, lots of great stuff.  So here are those pictures, submitted respectfully over two months late...

And the new game page is here.

Weekend Roundup, #1 Edition

So, we've reached that time of year where I make that post where I tell you that rumors of this website's demise have been greatly exaggerated.  So there's that.  Apologies, I'll do better, missing pictures are coming, more content, etc., etc., etc...  You can't trust me. That you can trust.

Roundup?  Roundup.

  • It's Super Bowl week, so there will be a Michigan player in action.  Also, a Michigan Man will coach Michigan....er, I mean San Francisco...and Baltimore I guess.  Jimmy Hardballs was my first love in Maize and Blue.  I pretended I was him (and at 9 years old, I probably already weighed as much as him) as I snapped the ball to myself in a one-on-one tackle football game I'd play with a friend on the cement floor of my basement, dodging my dad's rusty iron weights that were laying around.  It was a barbaric 10-yard fight, and we were both lucky it didn't end in cracked skulls.  16 years later, I got a new appreciation for Jim, as at around 40 years of age, he still was pulling tail at Rick's.  He was my idol in youth, and my mentor as I approached the "inappropriate to go to Rick's" age.  Also, he did this...
