Long President's Day Weekend Roundup, 2/21/12

What you missed around the internets while you watched tv with your dog:

Weekend Roundup, "Like I've Always Been Here" Edition: 2/12/2012

Some of these are pushing a week old, the result of having a plan to put together a weekend roundup post last week Monday....then it got pushed to Wednesday....then, well, shit happens and here we are a week later.

Weekend Roundup, I'm Not Dead Yet Edition 10/24/2011

It's after midnight, so it's technically 10/25/2011, and that means you can get yourself a copy of John U. Bacon's opus Three and Out.  Personally, I can't wait to get confirmation that Carr and his clan gave no support to RichRod and company...so I'm heading to Kindle-ville right after this post.  So, the internets....

  • Speaking of Coach Carr, his alma mater...and mine...is heading to the playoffs for the first time in seven years.  They got the Colvin Cup back from Grosse Ile a couple weeks back (listen close to the video and you'll hear me), dismantled Algonac last week, and they host Chelsea this Friday.  So ya, it's me vs. Superfan, Sgt. Wolverine, and the rest of the superhero-clad Michigan fans that are all from Chelsea.  Come say "hi" fellas, I'm the chubby fella in the booth.
  • Michigan basketball comes in at #18 in the preseason rankings.  I soooo desperately want to believe in this team.  Somebody give me something to hang my hat on.  Please?  Well, that ranking puts basketball and football in similar slots in the polls.  AnnArbor.com poses a great question....which team will end up higher when it's all said and done?
  • As I stated last week...Michigan needs to find a way to buck the trend of the last couple years that has Michigan State figuring out the Achilles heel and the rest of the Big Ten copycatting/adjusting so that we don't win another game.  Poop.  AnnArbor.com elaborates on the subject.
  • And the winner of the Best Column Title of the Season award goes to Stephen Nesbitt and the Michigan Daily:  Appreciate the Attitude, Wait on the Aptitude.  Yes, that's what we shall all strive to do.

Weekend Roundup, 2012 Edition: February 7, 2011

Again, those who can't do, link:

  • Michigan State lost to Wisconsin 82-56 on Sunday.  This guy in my office tells me they played much better than they did when they played Iowa.  I almost didn't hear his analysis because I was laughing so hard.  But I do have this MSU blog that I trust, and he said the same thing, so ya, maybe.
  • Tate started visiting schools today.  Kansas State and Miami are on the list, but none of that compares to the update made to Tate's homepage, where a photoshopped Yoda-Bo and Tate Skywalker discuss Tate's transfer.  No, seriously.

  • Though this article in AnnArbor.com seems to insinuate otherwise, I believe that the current staff was happy to reach out to former players.  I do, however, believe that there were a lot of players that refused to reciprocate.
  • Phil Simms came close to cleaning Desmond Howard's clock on Saturday in an attempt to defend his son whom Howard called "one of the worst quarterbacks in the SEC."  Desmond broke the story on twitter...very 2011 of him.  Follow him: @desmond_howard.  Follow me: @umtailgate.
  • Rittenburg rates Michigan's 2011 recruiting class.
  • MGoBlog covers the 2012 offensive recruiting hotlist.
  • Brady was in the barbershop and the townspeople asked if he plans to run a man-to-man or zone defense.  An eighty year old man suggested that "zone was the only thing that worked in the past."  Another person said that if Jimmy switches to Terhune then we haven't got a prayer.  Looks like we are going with the 4-3.

Weekend Roundup, We're Gonna Live Forever Edition: 8/31/2010

Here's what happened around the internets while Columbus made plans to kill Rittenburg for suggesting that Sweatervest might be done after this season....

I always operated under the assumption that the life expectancy of a tailgater, particularly people from our group, is significantly lower than that of your average Joe.Then I read this...

But a new paper in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research suggests that — for reasons that aren't entirely clear — abstaining from alcohol does actually tend to increase one's risk of dying even when you exclude former drinkers. The most shocking part? Abstainers' mortality rates are higher than those of heavy drinkers.

That's right pussy! Keep refusing me when I try to hand you a beer....and you'll DIE.

I have a triple-linkfest from the Freep, which in much of the Michigan Blogosphere is sacrilege, but The Godfather wants content, and they don't deliver any papers to his house anymore except the South Bend Tribune, which he needs to find out what the good deals are down there for groceries. But I digress... Mitch Album spent 90 minutes with Coach Rodriguez, and there's some pretty good stuff in there...

I wish every one of our fans could spend a week in Schembechler Hall. If they spend a week here just hanging around with the coaches and the players -- they'd know everything is OK -- and they would probably be surprised it's not what (the perception) is out there.

The staff of the Freep gave their predictions for the season. Telling me that Michigan is going to go 6-6 is one thing, telling me Michigan State is going to go 10-2 is another. Damn you Rosenburg.

Also, Shanon Shelton gets bold, making the call that two Big Ten coaches will be fired, and neither of them is Rich Rodriguez.

AL.com, the official site of...um...the state of Alabama?  Kinda like Mlive I guess, only with a dash of illiteracy.  Anyway, they have an all encompassing article on college football 2010 that provides the double whammy of UCONN being a sleeper pick for the National Championship and Rich Rodriguez as the #1 coach on the hot seat.  FUN!

It's probably time for you to start to get to know your opponent.  Boston.com profilesthe slow and steady rise to success of Randy Edsall's UCONN.

Michigan State and Ohio State are dirty and poor.  And that's why all of their dorms are filled with bedbugs.  MATW has more.  Nasty bastards.

What's more amazing than Maurice Clarett joining the Omaha Nighthawks?  The fact that Jeff Garcia is their quarterback.

4 days people.....4 days.
